Steve Genewick’s background

Steve Genewick is a three-time Grammy-nominated recording engineer with over twenty-five years of experience, both as a studio and live recording engineer. Steve has worked primarily out of Capitol Studios as a staff engineer since 1994.

For the past 15 years, Steve has had the great honor of collaborating with a 23-time Grammy award-winning engineer/producer, Al Schmitt. While working with Schmitt, Steve had the opportunity to work with artists such as Diana Krall, Chris Botti, Gladys Knight, Neil Young, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, and Paul McCarney.

When not at Capitol Studios, Steve can be found working at any number of major recording studios in Los Angeles or mixing at his home studio. Steve also creates a great video channel for Capitol Studios called Top Of The Tower and the 1 Mic 1 Take series. Check out some of the 1 Mic 1 Take videos below!

Who is M. Allen Parker?

Allen Parker is a recording engineer originally from Atlanta, GA. He’s now in Nashville, managing Easy Eye Sound and working closely with artist and producer Dan Auerback of The Black Keys.

Allen grew up playing both drums and percussion in classical ensembles and rock bands before getting his degree in music business and production at Belmont University, followed by becoming a staff engineer at Ocean Way Nashville. For several years, he quickly developed professional and personal relationships with many of music city’s finest musicians, engineers, and producers like Dan Auerbach, Jay Joyce, Ross Copperman, and mentor, Ben Fowler.

For the last decade, he has devoted himself to freelance work in numerous Nashville studios. Since January 2016, Allen has been the Chief Engineer and Studio Manager at Easy Eye Sound – a Nashville based studio owned by artist/producer Dan Aurbach.

Allen’s client list includes the likes of Dan Auerbach, Dierks Bentley, Joe Walsh, Yola, Blake Shelton, Robert Finley, and many other cool artists.

About Matty Harris

Boston native Matty Harris is a music producer and mixing/mastering engineer. As a young musician, he won several awards, including the best drummer in New England, tours with jazz, blues and calypso bands, and playing in clubs at the age of 14. Matty later went on to Berklee College of Music to study Music Production and Engineering.

Matty’s work in the studio includes credits for Atlantic, RCA, Warner Bros Records, Sammy Adams, A$AP Rocky, Logic, Lil Yachty, Cousin Stizz, and Grammy-award-winning song “Stronger” for Kelly Clarkson – winning the 2008 Boston Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Engineer and Producer.

Matty now lives in Los Angeles where he also runs a cool YouTube Channel called “Mix And Master My Song“. This also happens to be the name of his website and studio where he works with artists from all over the world.

Who is Jason Hall?

Jason Hall is a recording and mixing engineer based out of Nashville, TN. He’s best known for his work with producer Jay Joyce and for working with artists such as Eric Church, Cage The Elephant, Coheed and Cambria, Derek Trucks, The Head and the Heart, Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Halestorm, and Little Big Town.

With a career spanning over 20 years, Jason has many platinum, gold, Grammy-winning, and CMA-winning albums to his credit. He continues to twist genres with his innovative recording style.

Early Life

Originally from Cullman, AL, Jason grew up on Air Force base and learned to play guitar and record on a 4-track recorder in his mother’s garage. In 1996, Jason moved to the Nashville area to attend MTSU. Upon graduation, Jason started his long-time collaboration with producer Jay Joyce, and the pair have gone on to make genre-spanning records for over two decades.

Spectra Sonics made consoles for studios like Ardent in Memphis, The Record Plant in NYC, and Easy Eye Sound (Dan Auerbach’s studio in Nashville). You have heard Spectra Sonics records by Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, ZZ Top, Emerson Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, John Lennon, and more than we can keep track of.

In this episode, Bill tells about the amazing history of Spectra 1964, the studios that have made so many iconic records, the design philosophy behind old and new Spectra Sonics, and different ways that we can improve our sound in our studios and better understand things like peak limiting and signal chain.
